After a very well-recieved presentation on dyslexia at the LDANZ Conference in Whangarei in 2015, Specific Learning Difficulties Nelson (SLD Nelson) is bringing Barbara Brann to Nelson in May 2016. Barbara will be presenting a public talk and a full day workshop with a key focus on dyslexia.
Audience - LDA teachers, parents, teachers, specialist teachers, tutors, older children.
In this session, Barbara will spend the first two hours talking about the 7 keys to learning during which the impact of having a difficulty learning for whatever reason will be examined. This session will include information about brain function and information processing and you will be experience what it is like to have a problem or two!
The middle session will be spent examining the underpinning skills for literacy and how lack of understanding and skills in foundation areas of learning contribute to learning problems.
The final session of the day will be a practical session in which simple methods and ways to stimulate development of specific skills will be examined. Barbara will introduce you to her Treasure Chests and Blocks - not just gimmicks, but ways to use colour, manipulation and the senses to sight and touch to enhance learning at any level and for any age group.
Strictly limited numbers, so book early to avoid disappointment.
A funded SLD Nelson initiative.
