Reliever Workshop- Deliberate acts of teaching in writing in the junior and senior school

Deb Leov and Fiona Madill

What does a teacher do moment by moment to encourage children to become effective writers?

Deb and Fiona will share some practical ideas for writing in the senior and junior school, using the NZ Curriculum, the Literacy Learning Progressions and Effective Literacy Practices as three key documents to underpin the learning in each activity. With an introduction to shared writing, discussion will focus around how to be an effective teacher who makes writing time meaningful, and each lesson count.

By the end of the session you will-

  • Be familiar with the three key documents, as mentioned above;

  • Looked at the Literacy Learning Progressions for each level;

  • Discussed and reflected on deliberate acts of teaching;

  • Have some practical ideas that can be implemented right away.
